Exclamation Do not allow iTunes update your carrier settings

    EDGE / GPRS settings disappeared.

Since a few days, iTunes has been asking to update my carrier settings on my iPhone. I originally kept clicking cancel but yesterday I clicked yes. The installation took a second and iTunes said it was done successfully.

The iPhone appeared fine, but it lost the EDGE settings -EDGE settings disappeared (it obviously does not allow Edge editing with my provider).

If that happens to you, go to http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18814to see how you can fix it.

No it does not. Carrier updates are made for Apple partner carriers. So if your iPhone is on one of Apple's partner carriers, updates will be offered. in this acses the option to set a diffetent apn will be gone. Only as long as the unknown bundle is used, you have this option.
i dont know how the *sim solutions work. But as soon as the iPhone at least thinks it is on an Apple carrier, it will offer the update.
Create a custom carrier bundle and you are set. There is a sticky in the Pwnage section. This will work for those on Apple carriers and those not beeing. All bundles contain the set for displaying and editing APN and stuff.
Read the stickies and search the forum before posting!

I am not on a approved carrier which is why my edge settings disappeared. I restored my iPhone and it worked fine after that. I will try and make a carrier set and install it to avoid the damn message (which appears every time I connect to iTunes).
    Thanks,
    P.

Default To remove that message for T-Mobile US

I also had the annoying iTunes message upon plugging in my iPhone
"itunes needs to check for a carrier update" or something, of course I always hit "no" just in case it wants to set it back to AT&T.

So, on the iPhone, I opened up Cydia, hit "Sections" then "All Packages", scrolled to t-mobile, and installed the "T-Mobile US Carrier", then restarted the phone (hold sleep/wake button, powered off, then powered back on with same button).

No more annoying message. Thanks Open-source geeks!

It sounds like there are other Cydia packages for other carriers too.

    I had the same problem.
There is one more issue which nobody seems to be aware off.
And that is once your carier goes official. They can update settings on your phone without even asking you.
The solution to this problem is setting your carier to unknown.
I think need to try it.

Easier to get iPhone Configuration Utility and create a set of policies, including your custom EDGE/GPRS settings. It will overwrite the one pushed by your carrier, plus you do not need to hack into your phone and do obscure changes which are replaced in a software update. And it is based on an Apple approved tool

    FYI
I had everything working and kept saying no to the update carier settings.
The I upgraded itunes to 8.0 and now it doesnt even ask me if I want to update my carier settings.
I just suddenly found the files on my iphone. ANd wifi dead.

Im not sure how to fix this because t-mobile is not my carier and I cant use cydia anyway without wi-fi.
So now I have to go looking for the carier bundles and sftp them over to my phone.

I think they should say buy an iphone and forget about the rest of your life. No job, no familly. Just spend every waking moment trying to keep it running.
My Boss hates the iphone. My wife hates the iphone.
Im out shopping for a real phone.
Enoughf off having apple mess with you.
I bought a phone. I didnt sell my soul to Steve Jobs.
