    hey guys,

    please donīt be picced!

i tryed to ask att what to do with the iPhone after canceling the plan.
they said you can return it within 30 days.
then i asked whats about after 30 days.
    they said we donīt know.

after update the iPhone has to be activate again.
so i understand, you can leave it as iBrick or make a new plan with att.
    itīs all...

    and sorry for bad english

@pendalf: After upgrading to 1.0.1 a cancelled-service phone is still "activated", you just don't have any cell service. It does not need to be activated again. Your post above indicates that the update returns it to the "Un-activated" state.

Also, count me as what, number 3 or 4 in this thread that cancelled service and had AT&T laugh at me when I asked them to unlock it.

A mod should delete this thread to stop the spread of retarded rumours like this...

This "news" is NOT true. AT&T will NOT unlock your phone. Not yet and not within the next years. It is locked to AT&T as long as they'll have the exclusive rights to sell it.

I talked with my press contact at AT&T about that. They don't even unlock them for the press or testing.

This is an OLD story, full of crap, no truth in it. AT&T does NOT unlock the iPhone, not now, not in two years (after the contract runs out) and not in five years (when apparently the exclusivity runs out). At least this is what an AT&T employee told me on the phone, of course in a very friendly way (and probably with a smile on his face).
