is there any way of getting around using pwnage tool to get around activation with a broken power button? I am running windows so I can't use pwnage tool. I was able to make the modified ipsw file, but i didnt use it yet because I read you should not with redsn0w. I am able to get the phone into recovery mode using the DFU.zip cmd prompt method, but I cant get redsn0w to work while in recovery mode.

when using redsn0w, 2G and 3G use DFU, 3GS uses recovery mode for jailbreak.
pwnagetool requires DFU for first pwn, however at least on 2G phones if the phone has already been pwned once you can reload subsequent custom ipsw firmware using recovery mode.
The procedure explained in this thread is only recommended for use with pwnagetool and DFU.

hello freind
So while jailbreaking by using redsnow for iphone 3g we have to use DFU mode. My friends i phone was in dfu mode so it downloaded cydia and they unlocked the phone. But my iphone is in recovery mode i think so while i installing cydia after getting downloading jailbreak data on my iphone screen iam not getting the running pineapple screen. After i entered in finish and when i switch on my iphone cydia is not downloaded in my iphone. Please tell me how to get to find whether my phone is in DFU mode or recovery mode. And how to convert recovery to DFU mode. Thanks in advance

This thread is which is specifically about accessing DFU mode when you have a physically broken home/power button.
There are excellent guides for redsn0w redsn0w jailbreak on windows and DFU mode on iClarified

I think some people are getting confused,
our problem is that our power buttons are broken so we CANNOT enter DFU mode. We know how to jailbreak and unlock an iPhone 3g normally, the problem is trying to get into DFU mode some other way, or if there is someway to jailbreak in recovery mode, which we can get into

Does anyone have an answer to this? I also can only find one folder when browsing the ipsw? Not sure what i'm doing wrong but i'm using stuffit archive manager like md2719 said but can only find the one folder.
thanks

The 2G phone (1,1 in the firmware name) has only one folder (m68ap) that needs to be modified. This is normal and the reason for this is related to the internal hardware differences between these models.
This procedure was first tested and documented on a 3G phone (1,2 in the firmware name), the firmware for that phone has two folders (m68ap and n82ap) that need to be modified.
The process of copying the applelogo file out of the archive, renaming it with the same name as the LLb file in the archive then adding the renamed file into the archive is exactly the same for both phone models. You need to copy/rename/overwrite the LLB file to m68ap and if it exists the n82ap directory also.

Sorry for the delay. Actually Olethros said exactly what I was going to reply. I didn't try it on a 2g iphone; in my case it was a 3g iphone. Anyway I suppose it's going to work also in the 2g iphone.

Thanks, I guess I should have realized I'm in the 3G forum and not 2G. I just tried it but pwnage tool is still saying Failed to enter DFU so I guess i'm out of luck
