ATT IS DOING CREDIT CHECKS, NOT APPLE.

ATT only does a credit report when you give them your SIN to sign up on a plan. whats going on is apple is tracking peoples credit card numbers to stop the surge of a small amount of people who are buying "excessive" units or units not for them.

even if they kept a CC number with a name there is no way to attach the name to multiple cards because names are not unique. so this whole issues is solved by getting a credit card with a different number hence how people with more than one credit card can buy iphones again.

They are NOT doing credit checks and it will NOT affect your FICO score. You would have to sign off giving them permission...

Actually, it's a good cover-your-ass move on the customer's (the actual user of the iphone) behalf.

Considering that the people buying to sell on ebay are purchasing to sell after using a hack, and that said hacks have been shown in the past to not be very well tested, and that we have an example of a hack that has been known to cause major issues when the phone is used normally (example: anysim and update 1.1.1), it's necessary to limit the number of phones sold as unlocked.

AT&T's problem is with the unlocking. I don't care about AT&T.

Apple's problem is with having their support people having to deal with people who's phone's warranties are void before they even got them. Since you can't guarantee all the unlock hacks are well tested, and you can't guarantee that the people unlocking to sell are even smart enough to make sure they are using the latest version, there will be many people who buy a phone, do something that a normal iPhone would be able to do (such as updating) and end up calling Apple for support when it stops working.

I mean, look at ebay. I ran a search and there's still many people selling 1.0.2 firmware iphones. We know what happens when somebody hits update on those.

Apple doesn't want these resellers because to the typical non-techie buyer of unlocked iphones off ebay, Apple gets the blame for something that isn't their fault.

If a iPhone's going to be unlocked by a hack, it's better done by the guy who's going to be using it because they'll at least know it's a hack. Having somebody else do the unlock and gouge out $200 extra from the user's wallet hurts both Apple and the iPhone user.

i could go to the ATT store, but they run a credit check EVERY time you go in there to buy one. That can't be good for the FICO score.

I only have so many cards, and they take your card to the computer, look it up and then look up the purchase history on the card then tell you you've already purchased 2 and can't sell anymore.

is there a way around this? should i just get those little prepaid/gift cards?

its sucks because the instant ones at my bank dont have any name on them, so i guess that wont work?

Anyone have similar experiences/troubles getting iphones?
Hi, i live in Germany. I´ve bought my iPhone on Apple´s online store on Sept. 25th with my German master card without any problems. I just had it send to my sisters place in NY city. She forwarded it to me via US Postal. Took about 5 days alltogether. Now i am very happy.
