Default The DEFINITIVE Guide to Upgrading to iTunes 7.4.1

I've modded my iPhone with AppTapp while using iTunes 7.3. All of my applications are from there. These instructions, however, should work for any type of modification you've done (Windows and Mac).

Here's what I know to have the most updated software on your iPhone, without any problems. Otherwise, you're stuck using the old versions of everything:

    1. RESTORE the phone to its normal state while still in iTunes 7.3. Restore to iPhone Firmware 1.0.2

    2. Sync (but don't sync music/photos/videos/heavy files. Waste of time).

    3. Upgrade iTunes to 7.4.1

    4. Sync again with the new iTunes.

    5. Restore again while in 7.4.1. This step might be unnecessary, but I did it, just in case 7.4.1 reinstalls in a different way. Since I didn't play with the iPhone in between, it's an extra 5 minutes of work.

    6. Sync for real with all your video/audio/photo files.

    7. Use the new versions of AppTapp/INdependence to redo all the mods.

I didn't see these posted here, so I thought I'd share. If anyone has a faster set of instructions that doesn't require losing mods while upgrading iTunes, I'll edit this.

I know these instructions have a lot of extra syncs thrown in there, and possibly one extra restore. Better to play it safe.

    cheers,

I must have missed something. What happens If I just update to 7.4.1 without doing all that and sync as normal?

The problem isn't when you update to 7.4.1. It comes up when you try to restore it in 7.4.1 and you've jailbroken/modded while using 7.3.

The instructions above are just to make sure you get to update to the latest version of iTunes and not come up with any restore problems in the future.

So just to be sure if you HW unlocked your iphone (1.0.2) using itunes 7.3x you:

    - CAN update itunes to 7.4 and it will still work perfectly fine.
    - If you need to RESTORE your phone you must follow the steps posted above
    - After RESTORE (using the steps above) your phone will need to be reactivated to work (using AppTapp, ibrick, etc) but NO need to reopen to do the geohotz method again

    Is that right?

    Default Upgrading to 7.4.1

    Let me get this right
So far I only activated my iphone (with iPhoneAct) but haven't done anything else to it.
So is this whatI should do?

1 restore iphone using itunes 7.3 (that would make my iphone unactive again)
2 dowload and install itunes 7.4.1
3 activate my iphone using iNdependence 1.1.1
4 and then restore once more using itunes 7.4.1

is that what I should do?

oh I have one more question.
when you activate the iphone wih iNdependence 1.1.1 when you're done and don't want to make further modifications, do you have to press the "return to jail" button?

    Help!!!

Correct on all counts (as far as I know). I believe you can update to iTunes, but restoring it will cause issues. It is best to run through this sequence before updating iTunes, to play it safe.

This will not undo the geohotz method.

Your sequence is out of order.

    1. restore using 7.3
    2. install 7.4.1
    3. restore once more using 7.4.1
    4. activate

As for your other question, I'm not sure. I don't use INdependence. But, I don't think you're required to return to jail anymore. I could be wrong about this.

I don't think there is any problem if I restore it under iTunes 7.4.1.

You may try the new guide that I posted
