hey im having this problem with my iphone. a couple days ago i was charging my iphone with my firewire wall charger that i have from my old ipod when the iphone got really hot so i disconnected it, charged it with the usb and all was well. however then the battery seemed to have way less capacity than it did before. i restarted the phone and the bar adjusted itself but the phone still died within a couple hours with minimal use.

after that it has become increasingly hard to even use my phone as its simply been dead. ive been having this issue for a couple days untill today when the battery died and i went to charge it but nothing happened. my iphone no longer turns on. i tried the firewire cable again and the screen went on to show the need charging icon only to disappear immediately as if it didnt have enough battery to light up the screen. now i cannot seem to charge the phone to turn it on. if i plug it in to the firewire the phone still gets hot but nothing else. also i noticed when i try to turn the phone on, if i listen very closely i can hear a rapidly repeating clicking sound similar to what a cracked hd sounds like =/ however its fairly faint and i have to press my ear against the phone to hear it. the screen is also cracked but that is the least of my worries as it never stopped the phone from working. anyone know what the problem might be? thanks in advance

This is a no brainer.

You used your ipod charger for you iphone...
They use different Volts
Your iphone is fried

yes that wasn't a very good idea... always check the voltage on the different charger! if you're lucky you might only have fried the battery of your iphone...

hopefully its just the battery.
one of the times the phone got hot there was nasty dried up fluid on the iphone connector and the firewire cable looked blackish and burnt on some of the pins
could this still be the battery only?
also i bought this phone off a friend who got it from another friend
i just checked on apples site and the serial is covered with limited warrenty until october 08
