hi form switzerland,
i'm visiting new york this summer for 4 weeks an own a Factory unlocked iPhone 3g (s). Roaming with my provider is very expansive an so im locking for a fair pre payd solution for this 4 weeks. at home i need about 250mb per month.
any tipps for me?

Goto apple store, use there free wifi

i know, but i'm not 7 * 24h in the apple store, and i need also a us mobile phone number :-)
att has only a 100mb option?

Yes ATT has only a 100 mb plan maximum for non-contract customers. I had the same problem when I visited the US last month. No matter what you do however at the time you sign up for whatever plan you decide on make sure you have some data plan, otherwise you will be charged per kb charges which are astronomical. Also you cannot add a data plan after you sign up for a plan, at least not for the same billing month so make sure you get a data plan when you start your service.

Also you must use a credit card to pay for your pre-paid service on ATT, and you must enroll for automatic monthly billing or they wont start your service. So make sure you call ATT and cancel the automatic billing before your 2nd month billing date or they will charge you again.

I would buy a prepaid tMo sim card for use while here in the US, and hack your iPhone to use it (if necessary). Also, most hotels and cafes have free wifi service. There is also iPhone App that will help find them.
