This could be a new activity for iPhone (DVB-H)
In some areas TV channels already are broadcasting in DVB-H format for mobile phones. How it is possible to recieve this kind of channels with iPhone? I have heard Nokia N96 has DVB-H tunner built in. Perhaps with a tiny tuner attachment to iPhone that also will be possible to recive these sort of channels with iPhone too similar to the one is about to come for GPRS. Any suggestion on this.

Its possible. Hopefully apple will lessen the restrictions on SDK and allow for applications to access accessories

i think the phones that have DVB tuner are all 3g phones... i could be wrong.. but i think 3g is neccessary to receive streaming video.. edge would just not be quick enough..

DVB-H a superset of DVB-T (DTT) so you need a tuner of cause, either integrated or attached. There are a few handys around having a tuner, the iPhone does not. You would have to attach it. Cause even the coming SDK does not support that (for June) you would haveto manufacture the tuner working on the iPhone on your own and find someone to do the programming with "our" toochain.

I think this worth starting to work on it. Those who can built tuner for attaching to iPhone get busy. Also those have their hands dirty in programing don't wash your hands and start working on this. iPhone has an excellent screen in terms of size and quality never seen on others. If a phone deserve to have TV broadcasting that should be iPhone I think.

But who needs television on his phone? Get a live instead
Even theoretical interest is quite sparse among users according to some survey results I've recently seen. Combine low interest in a fun solution (contrary to locoGPS, which at least has some practical uses) with the chances that the hardware you need to buy may be bricked as soon as a future firmware isn't jailbreakable for some reason (since the official SDK wouldn't allow you enough hardware access for it), and you've got something for a handful of geeks only, with no incentive for anyone to develop the hardware.
I don't say it wouldn't be nice, challenging and fun, but it surely is not "worth" starting to work on it for those who're capable of doing the hardware part.

Hardware development as I heard is not difficult since there is a DVB-H tuner device ready to incorporate into mobile phones. About future iphones even if that is true they may not be jailbreakable but for about 10 million iPhone sold already I think developed tuner will be useful.
Lots of people always watch certain TV programs and if you have seen any survey showing not many people interested in TV on mobile that should be a invalid survey since lots of companies already developed phones with analog TV and they have sold a lot.
Digital TV on my mobil will be great specially with iPhones large screen which i think it's best use is great TV programs and movies. Who knows may be in the very near future you can have all satellite channels in your iPhone too.

I agree. TV on your iPhone is cool and the idea has been floating around in my mind after my wife (!) suggested it a couple of weeks back.
I will start to look into the hardware aspects of it in more detail now after this encouragement! This will be the next project after the GPS module is finalized.
Keep an eye on my blog

The BBC iPlayer streams BBC programs to the iPhone in a dvdish like quality. Only available in the UK though. Its wifi only as edge couldnt take the strain.
Its an excellent proof of concept by the BBC, hope they now build an iPhone specific app that will download the files rather than stream them.
