Is it possible to have contacts launched via an icon on the springboard screen on a jailbroken/unlocked 1.0.2 ?

If so can you describe how to do it pleeeeeze

The way I did it.
Install Customize from Installer. Customize will give you an optiion to show or hide Springboard icons...including contacts.
