change sounds (not ringtone)
anybody who knows if it's possible to change the sounds for new email or calendar alert?
yes, you can change them with iFuntastic, its in the filebrowser, somewhere in a folder "UIkit" or something like that
If you've installed SSH on your iPhone, you can just scp them in.

Save your new sound as a .aif file then rename to the sound you want to replace, with the .caf extension. Then copy into the above location.
I've changed a few sounds on mine, including a much quieter shutter sound so people don't know when I'm taking a photo, and the original BBC Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy sound effect when the iPhone comes out of unlocked mode...
Very helpful and detailed, thank you!
Will try immediately
Hello Dotmike, do you know where the native ringtones on the iPhone are located? Id like to change the default "New Text Message" alert tone with one of the bulit-in ringtones.
What would happen if you delete one of the .caf files all together? for instance if i were to delete the photoshutter.caf would it eliminate the shutter sound for the camera
