Carrier Bundle Generator iPhone OS 3.0 - 3.1.2 (ipcc)
Only for iPhone users with hacktivated or factory unlocked iPhones NOT using a legit Apple partner contract. DO NOT use it if you are on a legit contract!!!
The latest release of my PHP-driven service auto-creates custom carrier bundles in .ipcc format for use with iTunes. Works for iPhone 2G/3G/3GS, jailed and jailbroken, Mac & Windows, iPhone OS 3.0 - 3.1.2.
[EDIT 10/20/09] iTunes 9 still does allow to inject ipcc files. With firmware 3.1 Apple broke the tethering function in order to keep on beeing good friend with AT&T. Dev Team released a patch for iphone 3G/GS
here. iClarified has a great tutorial on how to get the Dev Team's patch working
here. After the patch is applied, tethering will be re-enabled and the carrier bundles will work[/EDIT]
The solution is only for users on non-Apple partner carriers.
The ipcc file contains the custom carrier bundle and the symlink(s). The custom carrier bundles are made for iPhone OS 3 enabling MMS, Data & Tethering on iPhone 3G/GS. They can be used on iPhone 2G aswell but wont enable MMS/Tethering without further hacks.[/url])
Custom carrier bundels vs. unknown bundle and Mobileconf
The iPhone relies on carrier bundles, delivered by Apple with the firmware. Of cause Apple only delivers carrier bundles for their partners. If you use a hactivated iPhone or a factory unlocked one with a non-partner carrier, the "unknown bundle" is used. This one is made for roaming situations only, should not be played around with. Thats where custom carrier bundles come into action. You create a "real" carrier bundle, apply it to the iPhone and you're set.
Using Mobileconfig patches is not recommended, if you are not on an Apple partner carrier cause the unknown bundle is still used.
For users on a legit iPhone contract wanting to enable Tethering. The best way to do so if you are on a jailbroken iPhone is to modify the type-mask setting of the carrier bundle your iPhone uses. There are some hacks around using modified mobileconfig files. This is theoretically a way to go but most ready-made files I have seen dont have the proper type-mask values. I am still investigating the combinations needed for the different Apple partner carriers. Will open a thread on this in a couple days - different story.
Again, thanks to the Dev Team - they made all this possible!

AWESOME!
For the first time tethering is working on my 3G with Vodafone.de!
Thank you so much.
Just one question ... is there a way to not use carrier logos at all? I would like to have the carrier shown as if I would use the unknown bundle.
Thanks again!
EDIT: actually, never mind ... found the solution myself. removed the entire section StatusBarImages. It's working. Thanks a million volkspost!

This is an option of cause. You can aswell use custom png's just make sure to name them like the one's in the carrier bundle.
It is easy, if your iPhone is jailbroken.
You'll find the applied bundle in
/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/
Open the bundle, copy the two png's to your PC/Mac, edit and copy back - done.
I just decided to add the carrier logos by default. They are created by GD2 lib and imagetfftext on the server. Anti-aliasing is not really well done this way, it is limited a bit ;-)
I know lots of solutions around are not woking as they should. In most cases wrong type-mask setting cause problems. Well, I am happy hearing that it works for you, same here for me, I use Tethering/Internet/MMS. Even MMS with that tiny hack is working on my old iPhone 2G.

Apple is using Helvetica, the font is copyrighted and I cant use it. What you can do if your iPhone is jailbroken and has OpwnSSH installed: On the iPhone open /var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/. Open your carrier bundle inside. You'll find the two logos. Copy them to your PC, edit and replace them on the iPhone.
I will have another solution next week, beeing easier and without the need of a jailbreak.

Nice!
I make png files in photoshop, by Helvetica 14 Bold, and replace them in bandle.
Im check colors and can give to you some info:
1. White on Black logo - font color = #F0F0F0, BG color = #000
2. Black on White logo - font color = #3F3F3F, BG color = #DAE1E5 (this is average color from 11 pixels height box with background sector under operator logo)

If my operator provide MMS settings like this:
APN: mms.tele2.ee
login\pass: wap
proxy: 192.012.040.006:8080
http://mmsc.tele2.ee
How i can setup proxy port? Just fill this 192.012.040.006:8080 to the PROXY field?
In the previous bandle versions (custom made) i use field "Proxy Port" in .plist file to setup port value.

I would gues - but dont know that http://mmsc.tele2.ee is the MMSC
Fill in 192.012.040.006:8080
or 192.12.40.6:8080
for proxy. BUT: i dont know the MMS settings of all providers, please check with the provider
