Default Can't create new directories??? mkdir insists any dir I make already exists!

Everything was fine earlier today, could make directories, install apps, etc.

Now, seemingly out of the blue I can't create any directories. mkdir claims the file already exists. It does not matter what I name the file or where I try to create it, mkdir says it's already there. Now I was using chmod earlier to +x some apps, is there any way I could have mis-keyed somewhere that would result in this type of error?

uh I think you should be using the rmdir command instead of the rm command... also you might want to try an ls command to verify that, that directory is actually listed in the directory listing. Hope this helps :-) .

rmdir results in the same. ls shows that directory does not exist yet mkdir keeps insisting it does. And like I said, it doesnt matter what name I use for a directory, mkdir always claims it already exists. I could do something random like:

    mkdir fsnvskhf

and I'm told it already exists.

If you're not jailbroken, the filesystem might be read-only and maybe would cause this to happen?
