Ok... it seems that I took somewhat silly mistake and now I have a problem.

I made master.passwd file based on my own root passwd, and upload it to
/etc directory of my iPhone. But, after that, I could not log in either with the
original password "dottie" or my new one when I tried to connect to my machine.

So, apparently, correct root password is now lost.

What should I do in this situation.

I need help...

BTW, I had several year unix experience and don't know what exactly happened, though...

..or Jailbreak and overwrite master.passwd with a known good copy using a iPhuk and putfile or similar.

I encountered the problem too just now. After uploading the modified master.passwd file I can no longer login the iphone via ssh.

It looks like the saved master.passwd file is in DOS format when I do it under Windows.

You can download "dos2unix" for windows and run it against the modified master.passwd. After that upload it once more using iphoneinterface or ibrickr. Hopefully you can login using your own password after rebooting the phone once more.
