    Dont remove it completely. What you can do is use an existing and set the width to something like 1 or 2 pixel. has to be a png with a transparent background. Dont forget that the iPhone ueses two of those.

    what i do is change the string of the carrier's name into one space.

    The OP wants to see the 3G logo just beside the bars. This wont work if you edit the carriers name. It is a png file...
