Default Can I upgrade Itunes without issues?

    Hello,

I have a 2g that has been upgraded to 1.1.4 (w/ 04.04.05 FM) using Ziphone...

Using Tmobile...Recently my Itunes (version 7.6.1.9) has been asking me to upgrade both Itunes version and my Iphone...I always click cancel...

Now it (itunes) won't let me download movies/videos, etc...unless I upgrade to 8.0.1...

Is this something I can safely do without risking damage to iphone when I synch?

    Brian

okay, I now understand this upgrade of itunes is only required for HD...But question remains, if I upgrade Itunes to 8.0+, will that have any effect next time I synch with iPhone?

it is completeley safe to upgrade ur itunes dont worry about ur iphone nothing will happen to it

P.S I recommend also upgrading ur iphone trust me ur iPhone deserve the lateset 2.2 version. You can unlock/activate/jailbreak using quickpwn 2.2 if ur worried about reunlocking ur iPhone.

thats my dileman..I originally unlocked via ziphone...

Am I able to simply update via quickpwn (I use windows) as I have heard that there can be issues with upgrading after you originally used another program (ziphone in this case) to unlock/activate/jailbreak?

well personally, I did this to 3 iPhones so far, mine, my brother's and my friend's iPhone and all of them where 1.1.4 OTB unlocked/jailbroken/activated with ziphone 3.0.
What I did was DFU restore to 2.2, then ran quickpwn. Just make sure to check the option "unlock iphone" in quickpwn and bootneuter will run automatically after the jailbreak.

P.S don't ever interrupt the process of bootneuter, even if it takes 20 minutes!!! As doing so will end u up with a useless, VERY expensive paperweight. Do this at your own risk, some people had wi-fi isuues after doing this, but like i said I did 3 iphones which where, i suppose, in the same condition as ur iphone.

A good basic rule for those of you having unlocked the iPhone at 1.1.4 with ZiPhone: If you are among the lucky users that experience no probelms at 1.1.4 after using ZiPhone - means phone, sms, wi-fi, bluetooth, everything working - it is safe to restore to firmware 2.2 and then use PwnageTool or Quickpwn to jailbreak, activete, unlock.
Playing around with the baseband is always a bit risky - for every user. I have been up- and downgrading my iPhones again and again - never had any problems. Just take your time and dont push things, and: delete ZiPhone, dont ever use it again.

    happy hacking

okay, you have all given me the courage to attempt this with my functioning unlocked/activated/jailbroken 2g iphone i use with tmobile...

but since I am neurotic, i just want to confirm...

First I should update from itunes 7.6 to itunes the latest version 8.2 i believe (or whatever it prompts me to in itunes)...

Then I should connect iphone to itunes and shift + restore and point to 2.2 software I downloaded...

Once that is done, then I should run quickpwn for win and makes sure to click on option to unlock iphone?

This should give me a unlocked/jailbroken/activated iphone with cydia and/or installer that will allow me to connect with my iphone account on my computer (set up as new phone?)

    Few questions...

Should I keep sim in or out during the whole episode (if take out when)?

From exp, what is best way to export contacts first?

(Ready to take the plunge, just need a little push)

    push.....

It's iTunes 8.0.2 but you are correct on the rest.

Leave your simcard in during the whole process, actually it does not even matter.

Make sure before you start: Sync with itunes to have all your Music, videos.

In iTunes while the iPhone is connected, click on the iPhone icon, hit the tab "Info" and make sure to have an app selected to sync your addresses and your calendar events.

Make sure to have all photos that are on your camera roll of the iPhone are synced with your PC

Then go ahead as described, after you're done, "setup as a new iphone", after that sync with iTunes and almost all information will be back. You will be loosing sms- and call-history, notes, saves maps-locations and some more. If you need to save them, WinSCP into the iPhone before you start and copy the data to your PC, after update copy them back.
