Default Can I replace my Keyboard on 1.0.2 to get ", ...etc" ?

    Hello,

I am currently still on 1.0.2 and just want to ask whether it would be possible to replace my keyboard with one from the newer FWs in order to get new characters such as "" or "" when holding the corresponding buttons?

This is the only option I miss in 1.0.2 and it'd be great if one can just replace the keyboards. Thank you!

There's no function in the new FWs as to justify all the stuff I have to reinstall/mod again to have it like I want it.

Just like you, I still have 1.0.2... same reasons not to upgrade. And I've modded my keyb.

You can install Mobile Enhancer and a patched Russian keyboard to suit your needs... PM me and I will help you on the process... by the way, it adds an alternative layout to the keyboard.

    Vc brasileiro, por acaso ?

I am also in 1.0.2 and would like to upgrade to 1.1.1 but haven't find a way yet. It was unlocked when I purchased. I upgrade to 1.1.1 but coudn't jailbreak using jailbreakme.com . Then I realised read all about virginizers and decided to use them and virginize phone and them upgrade but realised my seczone is not damaged and my IMEI is the same as original IMEI curved at the back. So I don't need to use virginizers and updating to 1.1.1 also not worked for me. You see now why I am still on 1.0.2. Any clue how I can upgrade to 1.1.1?

ag_oo7, you might wish to back up and then virginise anyway - if you unlocked on 1.0.2 it's perfectly possible that the baseband is not virgin. I haven't had any trouble with unlocks either. (iDay phone in the UK on vodafone).

I used an installer program (sources are here ) to virginise my baseband and updated straight from 1.0.2 to 1.1.2, the increase in speed is really noticeable, the jailbreak (java app) was pretty easy on a mac, and reinstalling all my programs etc didn't even take that long; only an hour ish for the lot, didn't lose any data (including photos I'd edited on the phone so they show up fullscreen), and it was well worth it.

the problem - for you - is that you don't know how it was unlocked, I'm not sure if the virginisers on installer are specific to which unlock was used (no reason to suspect they should be though), unless it was an IPSF unlock that was used (unlikely as it wasn't free) - you could find out though (for free) by downloading the IPSF program and seeing if your IMEI is on their servers.

hope this helps - 1.1.2 is definitely worth the effort, I haven't found enough significant differences to 1.1.1. that stop programs etc working, and the speed boost is awesome! (as are the accented characters if you need to type in a language that isn't english)

You can not have the new keyboard from firmware 1.1.1 (1.1.2) without updating. They changed something within the freamework, so it will not work, if you install it on 1.0.2. Maybe "Mobile Enhancer" is working better ...

Actually i do recommend updating to 1.1.2. It's faster, more convenient, it's multi language and you'll get all the named sender SMS (from banks and so).

Okay, thank you, I was waiting to clarify that. However I stick to the 1.0.2, working flawless and I don't mind having the accented letters so much. Will look into "mobile enhancer", but as far as I know it isn't possible to make the accents appear like in 1.1.x by holding the corresponding buttons, is it?

no numl0ck, not as far as I know on 1.0.2. this is predominantly, as dragon-tmd said, due to framework changes.
the upside of this is that the phone does seem to work faster - that also seems to be because the processor has a slightly higher clock speed.
if you have an older bootloader you can easily update in about an hour - most of the 1.1.1. programs work on 1.1.2 or have 1.1.2 compatible versions on installer.
