Discuss can a gsm carrier equipment write the necesary info on the sim card to make it work? at the General - Hackint0sh.org; correct me if i'm wrong (cause all i know about sim locking is what i've ...
correct me if i'm wrong (cause all i know about sim locking is what i've read since june 29), but if it was IMEI prefix locked, then only iphone supplied sim cards would work in iphones. this couldn't be the case then because other new at&t 3g sim cards from different phones work in the iphone too.
btw peoples, to check the IMEI on your phone (does it work on the iphone?), enter *#06# on your numeric keypad of your phone. do NOT post your IMEI here under any circumstances ok.
here's the wiki link to IMEI:
anyway, here's the wiki link about sim locking:
something to note there which i thought was very interesting:
"AT&T Wireless, never unlock handsets, even after a customer has fulfilled their service contract. Other providers, for example T-Mobile and more recently (the new) AT&T will unlock phones if the customer has an active account in good standing for at least 90 days." (wikipedia.org)
without knowing anything about the way it all works in any depth, i'd say it is both locked to the network, then additionally locked to the country.
this would explain the reason that in the photo, the phone has accepted the sim card, but when it tries to connect to the network to make a call, it gives a "Sorry, this Item not functional yet..." message. maybe, the item functionality in question relates to the non-domestic networks?
i'm not sure - someone who knows more about it would be able to shed light on it.

and only for incoming calls ?
It run ?
We'll have to speak to l_a_m_e_r as he's the one who did it. As far as I could make out, the message you see on the screen is from an STK application, not from the iphone. The irc channel was a bit 'noisy' while we were discussing this so I not 100% certain.

So it means that someone has re-created the orange image.
If so it doesn't mean that he has connected to orange.
I don't think the phone is country locked because on the plan we find international roaming fees.. so it means that by roaming you can connect any net worldwide.
HAS ANY AMERICAN WITH AT&T regularly activated roamed abroad? THIS IS THE QUESTION.
[QUOTE=JSN1;8936]I currently live in México.
My current GSM carrier is Movistar.
When I was in a service center, I saw very interesting things...
There, they have a Terminal, where they can upgrade, cancel,
deactivate, activate numbers, and sim cards.
There was a customer who lost her phone, she was nervous
about loosing her number.
So she bought a new phone and a new sim.
The representative asked her for her old number,
he palced the number in the terminal.
There was a field that said "associated sim card", he
erased the old sim card ICCD, and he wrote the number
(ICCD) of the new sim card.
Suddenly, the phone was activated, and was using the old number.
So, I think there are some possibilities. If you put in the
associated sim, the ICCD number from the AT&T sim,
I think the phone is going to associate with Movistar even
if you have the AT&T sim, it's like roaming, but it will
be directly associated in México, or whatever country.
8:52 PM GTM-6: Calling GSM Carrier to ask if they can do this.
8:55 PM GTM-6: Sent me to a Service Centre
excellent, be sure to let us know how you go.
The representative at the phone told me that it was possible, but they had to evaluate the phone on the service centre.
