Default can apple force a firmware upgrade?

Hi,

I want to buy an iPhone here in the Netherlands (don't see the official holland release coming this year and can't wait...), though before buying, I have one little question:

Is there a way that Apple can force us to update the firmware, so that the unlock would be undone? Or with some software in a new iTunes version? I know that I didn't have to update my ipod, is it the same with the iphone?

Then one more question: Is it possible to add music, video's etc. to the iphone without itunes?

-- Thanks in advance!

That's three questions. and they're not so little answers.

1. Apple can offer firmware updates via iTunes that may or may not relock your phone. Best to wait and see what happens to more adventurous lads before updating your phone after the unlock. Check back here with the board/Dev team before clicking on YES for the next update. Of course you could just not accept the updates but you'll be clicking NO every time you sync your iPhone to iTunes. And you'll start to lag behind in features and updates. the choice is yours.

2. Currently Apple is treating iTunes and iPhone updates separate. So updates to iTunes mostly do not effect the iPhone. I emphasize "mostly" because of the different hacks that are out there. Who can say what feature they'll drop into iTunes that is meant to sync up with a feature on iPhone, that was affected by a hack.

3. I think so. But judging by your uncertainty with the first two questions, I don't think you want to get that involved with hacking your phone.
Can I sync my iPhone to my Newton?

dude, the firmware update isnt out yet, and do u think that apple will take off all the iphone from the shelves and update every single one of them???

i believe that only the new phones being shipped after sept will have the new firmware installed.

you cant see the details beofre you activate it or connect it to itunes...

there is one problem thou. Even if u have a 1.0.0,1.0.1,1.0.2 iphone. When the new FW is released. IF anything goes wrong with your iphone, and u want to restore.. IT will force a 1.1.1 restore and not your current version.

by holding option (mac) or shift (win) whilst pressing restore you can select what version you want to restore to your iPhone.

They could always remove this feature from future versions of iTunes though...

Thanks, exactly what I wanted to hear.

Hacking the iphone is no problem, assuming that this forum will continue to provide those great guides.

Isn't there an 1.0.2 restore image out that can be installed manually? I thought that you could even restore the iphone to it's virgin state without itunes?
