Someone here looked at TelephoneUI framework and found references to +1 and 011, the international prefix for US. I can't believe that Apple has hardcoded the prefix currently. But nobody has been able to find a solution, other than updating the contacts.

I looked into the address book ui plists extensively, i dont think its there....

likely to be in telephoneui, maybe it really is hardcoded upto now, as apple hasnt yet intended to distribute this FW to other countries...

I dont get it it. Caller ID works perfectly with +XX in front of the phonenumbers with me, both SMS as calls. Used supersim method.

With Geohot unlocked phone in UK we have country code +44.

If I use +44 for the contacts the when the text message alert popup appears it works fine and the name shows, however calls do not show the name.
Using 0 instead of the +44 means the calls get caller ID but the text popups only show the number. Oddly in the SMS app they show the name.

    Surely this is solvable somehow.

That depends of your operator. In some countries, operators send the calling number as local number. So the iPhone has to add the international prefix of that country. Unfortunately, it always adds the +1 prefix and doesn't match the address book. If you're lucky and your operator sends the incoming call in international format, iPhone will work fine.

So the only way is to create two numbers for all my 700 contacts?

there must be a way to patch it...

i also have the SMS working fine (because i get SMS's with +XXX) but the phone caller ID comes without the name...

Exactly ! This is why I sold my iPhone today. Too many shortcomings for most non US users who demand more from their phone.

Fixes, hunting software, jailbreaking etc etc ...who needs the headaches ?

    Sony Ericsson coming tomorrow.

I'm happy with mine for about a month of phone use in brazil... I just made a macro for the ill-formatted numbers in outlook... its quite buggy still but I dont have 700 contacts that needed the mod only a few...

i exported my contacts to comma seperated values and did it quickly in Excel then imported it back to the iPhone, but this is not the sulotion...

someone must be able to modify the iPhone to let it work...

SMS application gets numbers with contry code +XXX XXXXXXXX
Phone Application gets numbers with area code only 0XXXXXXXX

iPhone reads only one of the applications, depending on how you save your number

anyone knows how to fix this?
