Default Buy phone from AT&T instead of Apple store?

I don't live in the US, so I don't exactly know if there will be a difference if you buy a phone from the Apple Store or from At&T.

Do they make you sign up on the spot? Or can you just purchase a phone from them and come home? I'm sure they'll have quite a few 1.0.2 pieces left.

From my experience, AT&T make you sign up the 2 years agreement when you buy the iphone while the apple store do not. I would go to the apple store just to get the phone without signing any contract.

Would make sense to buy from an Apple store then. Don't want to be sucked into a 2 year agreement.

So, even if you DO sign up with them for 2 years, what is the cancellation fee or whatever it is that you do to get out of the contract? Do you get to keep the phone then?

Some of us might be willing to go thru all that trouble just to get an unlocked iPhone.

    Is that possible?

There is no difference. My advice is to buy from the Apple Store however -- less of a queue. Sign up on the spot? How is that possible? You authenticate YOUR iPhone via YOUR iTunes.

I just bought 2 iphones from AT&T without the plan, am lucky to have 7T737 from AT&T retail store.
