I think you tried to enter recovery mode incorrectly.

FIRST turn off the iphone, THEN turn it on and hold power + home when the apple logo shows.

It will go into recovery mode and then connect it to itunes and recover.

1 . turn on your iphone, but release the on button
2. when the apple appears press and hold the power and home button and wait 3 o 4 reset.

1 enciende el iphone, pero suelta el boton,
cuando aparezca el logo le das a los dos a la vez, a mi me lo hace mejor si esta puesto en la dock, yo pulsaba los 2 y me hacia resets y luego se apagaba.
