Default Brand new iPhone - One speaker broken?

Hello. I recently got my new 8GB iPhone, its since been jailbroken, unlocked, etc...

I've had a couple of problems that i've managed to solve with software tweaks but this problem, i reckon, is a hardware problem. However i decided to post just incase any of you guys knew anything about it.

Thing is, when i play music, videos or have a call through the iPhone loudspeaker, i've realised that only the left one works. I realised this because when listneing to music I started thinking that the phone wasn't loud enough, and when I turned the volume up higher than about 60% the sound quality became terrible (you know what a broken speaker sounds like).

Today I realised that in fact the problem is because the right speaker on the phone doesn't emit sound at all, and so i'm guessing all the "power" is sent to the working speaker and that is why I get so much distortion on high volumes.

Has anyone heard of this before? what can i do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your time

I just googled this problem and found this:

The right grille is for the microphone. The iPhone only has one speaker- your phone is perfectly functional.

The left hand one is the only speaker on the right is the microphone for when you are speaking on the phone....Nothing to fix!

Thank you very much for the quick reply people!

Alright, so i guess there is only one speaker. But how does it explain the terrible sound quality when i raise the volume a little bit?

I don't have a problem with the sond quality at all...Its probably the sound quality of your MP3's...Also, it could be that you have your equalizer turned on...

the distortion is probably just due high base. I have found the the range on the speaker is easily exceeded.

    Exclamation

Adjust the EQ in the iPod settings to Bass Reducer.
Now you can turn it up a little louder without distortion.

Hmm, i guess that's possible. It still shocks me how much distortion i get when i raise the volume up to a level audible in a busy room. The bass reducer does indeed make it a little better, though.

    Thank you all!
