Apps without an X are either jailbroken apps (delete by going into Installer or Cydia) or are built-in apps (you can hide these by using a jailbroken app such as Poof or SBSettings (HIGHLY recommended).

So here is the fix to the issues. Since I was in the same boat as everyone else in this forum I went down to the local T-Mobile store and tried my SIM on one of there phones. (yes, I know, pain in butt) So that proved basically nothing other than, the T-Mobile software/locked phones did not exhibit the same problem. Then I recalled a post I read a long time ago about the voicemail indicator always showing up when you power on and off the iPhone. The solution to that was to replace the SIM card. So I asked the guy at the store to give me a new SIM since mine was a couple of years old anyway. What could it hurt, right? Anyway, that did the trick. As soon as I powered up the phone the Voicemail indicator went away and when I checked Voicemail, the blank messages stopped showing up. So everyone on here having the problem, get in your car and run on down to the T-Mobile store and take the, literally, 2 minutes to get a replacement SIM and all of your worries will be gone.
One thing to note, you will have to add the APN back into the phone to get data working again.
Enjoy!

So is this the only solution until Tmo fixes their glitch?
Could it have anything to do with cydia? When I got a voicemail today, I didn't get the red dot indicator but I did get the blank texts. However, my springboard crashed and the phone went into safe mode...I haven't had anymore voicemails but this will be a pain if it crashes every time I get one...

The only time my springboard crashed was when i tried to call the blank number from the text.

Do not call the blank text message. This will cause your springboard to crash every time. If you just delete the messages you should have no problem with the springboard crashing. This glitch T-mobile is working on should not effect the phone other than the indicator not going away and blank text messages.
I am on my way to T-mobile to test the new sim card theory....I will post my results.

SIM Theory does NOT work
So I just went to T-mobile an replaced my sim. Still have the same problem. For now I just had t-mobile turn my voicemail notification off. We need to keep calling and urging them to fix the problem. They are currently blaming the iPhone software for the problem even though we have never had this issue before. This is happening due to t-mobiles software and they are the only ones who can solve the problem for now.

No no no no no
leave T-Mobile alone. They're not involved in anyway. if you go check your text messages, tap on the blank space and yes, it will have no number, but if you tap on "call back," youre iphone will lock itself. You will have a temporary new wall paper that "says sad iphone" or something like that with a cartoon. when u unlock it, it will say its going into safe mode and that in fact, cydia caused the problem. i dont have a solution to this though...

In this case you will no longer receive any text messages or a dot indicator when you receive a voicemail. **I do suggest for everyone having the same problem to call T-mobile and remind them you are a loyal customer and would appreciate them fixing the bug. If they receive enough of us complaining about the same issue I am sure they will be more willing to fix the problem quicker. **
i had tech support disable the voicemail notification for now. the phantom text messages were getting real annoying!!
