No, you can't use the blackberry plan with an iPhone. Blackberries use a different APN that is specific to blackberries. From what I know, data on the blackberry network is compressed so is only usable with blackberry devices.
The best plan for your iPhone would depend on which country you're in.

YES YOU MOST CERTAINLY CAN My brother owned a blackberry previous to having the iphone (never changed the text plan, unlimited data plan), and the edge works perfectly. Funny thing is i dont remember if i even patched it or not, but just try it and see. Yea, he has that plan and it works, but if u have tmobile get the 5.99 data plan works just as good. First post after your starting one is FAALSE, has nothing to do with apn obviously since his is working.

I don't know how carriers in the US operate, but the carriers in Canada have data plans specific to the type of device you are using, for different costs:

    Blackberry plans for Blackberries:
With Rogers in Canada, use a different APN which will only work with a blackberry device. I was told by a Rogers employee that the data is compressed on this network and is not ment to work with anything other than blackberries. Don't have a blackberry and don't have a reason not to believe this.

    WAP plans for non smartphones:
Uses a different APN and meant to work with non smart phones where surfing is pretty much useless anyways. This has the cheapest data rates. I've seen hacks to get iPhone to work with this APN in Canada, but couldn't get it to work with my phone. It's not worth getting stuck with a HUGE data bill.

    Data card/ smart phone plans:
Plans for data cards for use with laptops and smart phones using Windows Mobile and the like. iPhones use data this way, and this is the type of plan I have for my iPhone. It is pretty expensive in Canada, but at least I know what I will be paying on my phone bill for data each month.

The pay as you go rates for data in Canada are stupid. $.05/k which works out to $50/MB. If you're not careful, 10MB of data will cost you $500 without a plan in Canada. We all know that 10MB of data on an iPhone is nothing.
If all data was the same, I can't see why carriers would charge different money for different phones. To be on the safe side, I would recommend staying with a plan that is meant to work with your phone. It's not worth the hassle and worry of getting caught with a huge data bill.
On the other hand, if there's confirmation that say a blackberry plan will work with the iPhone, then why not? There's a $5.99 T-Mobile plan that lots of people got working with the iPhone.

My iphone is running on my t-mobile blackberry sim right now. I switch it back sometimes for work because the iphone still sucks for enterprise. Just use the tzones hack and it will work fine. I tried setting it up to use internet2.voicestream.com but that does not work. Everything works for me over edge with it.

I average 180 kbps. There is no speed difference that I can tell from the wap. and the internet2. Try again in about 15 minutes and see if its still that low. Also whats your signal level because your speed is a direct product of your signal and how busy the site is.
