I use VisualHub which is great, but not free. Same guys who makes VisualHub also makes iSquint,which is free. I believe this can convert to iPhone as well.
Otherwise maybe you can use mediafork / handbrake.

For PC I really like Videora. It is freeware too! It has annoying banners but works very very well and is simple to use for n00bs.

that's what im using right now, the videora iphone converter, one question when im converting videos what settings shoud i use in audio video etc, like best etc.

To tell you the truth it doesn't really matter too much. I just use the default settings and it works great. I have tried more advanced stuff but it takes longer to encode and doesn't look all that much better.

Quicktime is by far the easiest and best software available for Mac or PC. And it's free from Apple. You may need to enter a "pro" unlock code to export to iPhone Video, but don't quote me on that. But I'm sure you wouldn't have too hard of a time finding the serial/unlock code on the internet.
