tried the 1st method (plug iphone onto cradle when on, turn off, then on again to charge) , battery icon still not 100% full when unplugged after 10hrs of charging,
when unplugged
Usuage screen shows:
Usuage: x hrs y mins
Standby: z days, t hours
iphone has been plugged in since the last full charge
(x,y,z,t represent numbers)
so i plugged the iphone onto the cradle again for 3 mins and pulled it out, battery icon is completed but Usuage screen still shows the the iphone is plugged in...
any clue?

I'm having the same problem, and I must say i'm not completely happy with my Iphones battery capacity... After 1 day and 1hour of talk time, some contact copying, a little show-off
there's about 35-40% left on the battery icon... Now shouldn't a 1400mAh battery be a bit longer lasting? I have my screen brightness on aprox 40%.

Maybe you need to recalibrate the battery (mmm I don't know if that word exist. Sorry for my english).
1. Run the battery completely off.
2. Plug your phone and it will turn on itself.
3. Leave it charging all night.
Thats the way you "recalibrate" your battery as an Apple recommendation. This process its ment to be done like once a month. The thing here is, when Apple made the phones they charged them at 50% or less. The battery accepts that percentage as a full battery until you "recalibrate it".
P.S. I read it from the Apple forum at apple.com
