After I unlocked and installed a few programs via installer.app, I've noticed that my battery life has been basically halved.

Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe we can narrow it down to a specific app that's draining my bat.

I noticed similar problems yesterday. My battery died after about 10 hours with moderate use throughout the day.

It would be good if there was a tool that could track when the phone turns itself on (or starts processing applications) and how much power it's using when it does. Perhaps something as simple as an "average power draw" in one of the information menus would be enough..

It might well be SSH which is in constant listerning mode in order to work. You can turn it off using UIctl

Are you using Yahoo "push mail" service? Seems to me that this is another battery killer application.

I have not seen an idle OpenSSH process noticeably affect my battery life. In any case, neither twinotter nor ilikepudding appear to even have it installed.

Try uninstalling SummerBoard and see if that helps. I noticed while monitoring my processor usage via top in an ssh session that SummerBoard was constantly using more than 50% of the CPU, while the stock SpringBoard rarely uses more than 50% of the CPU. I just uninstalled SummerBoard last night, so I do not know exactly how much it will affect the battery life yet.

i have been running the installer app with all of the above apps for about 3 weeks and have not turned this ssh of - as im not THAT literate - that I even thought about it but have been using my 4gb for a long time and lots of calls and surfing etc - still having VERY good batt life - i might think its per unit problem. I have a lot of batt powered devices like digital cams etc through the years and thay all seem to be different in batt life even though they are same make and model but differing in fabric serial nr. for ex a powerbook bought in june and the a same powerbook bought in oct with same specs - same with canon digital cams.... however they are better because yoy just buy a new batt pack

Does anyone know if keeping the phone in jailbreak mode affects the battery life or anything else?

I uninstalled Navizon and Devicescape and it improved my battery life by a ton.

Either Navizon is constantly trying to contact other devices/hotspots or Devicescape is constantly listening in on my wifi.
