But once the main hack is done it may be just a case of changing source codes to keep up with the updates

right, but how long until jailbreak is developed again? days? 1 week? 2 weeks?

the firmware has been gone through and through, the only "uncracked" part (kinda) so far is the basebad firmware for full unlock, and that is being worked on. so once that is done, it will surely be easier to port any and all existing hacks to new firmware... so you dont upgrade the day and update comes out, you upgrade a few days later, no biggie, plus if there is a widespread problem with an upgrade you know before installing

It really depends how the SIM lock works on the iPhone. If it works like on other GSM phones, I think there might be a good change that the FIRST unlock solution may stick to the FIRST batch of iPhones which are unlocked. Shortly after, Apple/AT&T will surely find countermeasures which will make it harder and harder to SIM unlock newer iPhones which come fresh out of the factory. Of course there is also the possibility that iTunes will perform some sort of validation check too.

    Why don't we just wait?

To those who think that not updating further iPhone firmware in the future is a good idea to make the SIM unlock stick: these updates not only contain new functions, new programs, they also have tons of bugfixes and performance improvements. It would be a shame if we had to refrain from using these updates because otherwise the SIM would be locked again.

Well, way to ignore the biggest factor. You guys act as if you will even have a choice when it comes to software updates. News flash, Apple (driven by AT&T) more than possesses the capability to push an update, whether through iTunes or over the air. This isn't going to be like PSP hacking, its going to be like Xbox 360 hacking.

    I think so
In fact i dont understqnd why
Apple are in interest to sell the phones
We buy it hack it and use it
    So apple takes money
    AT T in loose
But i think apple not interested to disturb our hacking as many hackers tryes to hack phone as many phones seld
