Hi.
I am waiting to see if there's a software unlock available before Monday, if not I will do the hardware unlock.
Will see how long it take, then my company could provide such service for those interested (www.hydrix.com).
Has anyone had any issues with incoming call numbers being matched to the address book when number are stored in international format (+61 .....) ?

Yeah - I couldn't wait and on monday night I unlocked mine. Possibly the first h/w unlocked phone in Melbourne, but who's counting anyway :-).

The biggest concern I'd have is that when offering an unlocked phone to a 'typical customer' for a fee, they may be troubled/upset if anything goes wrong with the phone, if voicemail notifications aren't received, if a firmware upgrade occurs and they're left back at square one, etc etc.

Yep. They're not. Lots of threads about this, and so far it appears the best workaround is to double-enter all numbers so they're both '04...' and '+614...'

Well thanks to nicscoopers for the 2 phones he unlocked for me and my friend in Sydney.
All is working on Vodafone AU and weird thing is the E for the edge signal comes up some times.
Have just been out on the town for a few drinks and man when people SMS you it it weird. Its very much like iChat and being a mac user it is kind of good, but at the same time i found myself sending too many text messages in return.
A couple of things i found i didn't like about the SMS function.
1. Word Count. I can type pages of text but it doesn't tell me how many texts it would send from it.
2. How do you forward a text message you receive?
3. Sending messages to multiple people
4. Option to store messages separately from people and making message folders, WTF

and you can't forward contact to someone. I needed to give someone a number from my phone and I actually had to write it down on paper to re-enter it and send it to someone.
And no MMS.
As good as this phone is it is missing about 20 of the most basic things that other handsets have had for 10 years!

Wow, a lot of people keen to do the hardware unlock method...
I'm also receiving mine early next week but I'll be steering clear of any sort of hardware unlock for at least a few more weeks to see how the software unlock pans out. Far more comfortable doing it that way than to seriously risk bricking it with the more complex hardware method, plus there seem to be a few people having unwanted side-effects after using geo's method as well.
If all the software unlocks really do turn out to be hoaxes then maybe down the track the hardware unlock will become a little more streamlined with more people actually understanding what the steps do rather than blindly following them. Just my 2c for the moment, kudos to all those who have managed it successfully though and I really hope there are no adverse effects down the line. Must feel great to finally have it working as intended!
