Apps don't appear after 2.2.1 upgrade
Hi, this is my first post. I have upgraded recently to 2.2.1 using pwnage and everything is fine. However I notice that half of the .ipa apps I transfer through itunes don't appear on the phone even though they are added. I have tried resetting etc but nothing. It is always the same ones so is this an issue with the apps not being compatible with this OS. I have searched through the forums but can't find any answers. Google suggests others are having a similar problem so I'm thinking the only way to resolve this would be to restore to 2.1 which I don't really want to do. Any help appreciated:

Re-do the restore to 2.2.1 custom and this time after done, choose "setup as a new iphone" in iTunes instead of "restore data from a backup". After that setup the sync you want and it will work.

Just a short explanation: If you choose "restore data from a backup" besides the data you want back like call history etc you'll sometimes get back outdated preference files aswell. They can screw up everything, so we always recommend etting up as a new iPhone. This is especially important when going for major updates.

I'm completely new to this - I bought a used unlocked 2G with v2.2 software. I used "erase and sync" to my iTunes to get into my iPod libarary. But now none of the "add-on" apps that were installed before I bought the iPhone, like "Flashlight" or "Google Earth" work, even afte downloading them from iTunes. If I chose "restore" in iTunes will this keep my iPhone "unlocked" and get around this problem with apps?
thanks

This is a differnt story. The iPhone you got obviously had music and apps on it from the former owner. The are supposed to go once you connect it to your iTunes. The apps that were on the iPhone "belong" to the former owner, they cant be on your iPhone.
You need an account at the itunes store. Then get the apps you want in iTunes like GoogleEarth and so on, sync the iPhone and you will be set.
