Default Apple missed the mark with this software update?

I know everyone seems excited about this software update but i cant help think Apple totally missed the mark with this.

yes the Wireless iTunes store is great. I would love to have that on my iPhone to spend more money but really after that what else is there? It doesnt make me want to rush to update just yet.

here is where i think they totally missed what everyone is asking for:

    MMS Support
Send TXT to more than 1 person
    iChat
Ability to empty email trash can
    Edit Photos
    Photobooth for iPhone

These are just some basic, but most requested fixes that are all over the web and yet Apple just fdidnt do anything about it.

Makes me wonder if this update was more about locking out than locking in users....

i dont even know where to start with this - you are absolutely right. For ex. a simple copy/paste function - youd think they thought some of it through..... my guess is that its just a fight back

    Also the ability to:

    - Video Capture with camera
    - Zoom in / out on camera
    - Change phone number layout (UK style :p)
    - When someone phones who is in your address book but with an international tag - it identify them properly for example - I have people as +44 in mine - but when the number comes through as 07 (i.e without international prefix) it doesn't find them - my Sony does though!
    - Ability to be told when over 160 characters
    - Ability to see previous dialed numbers when on a call
    - Group MMS
    - Ability to have a Flash player working - not just YouTube on it.

It just depends on how apple is positioning itself. If they want to get customers of HTC, palm or Nokia (business phones I mean), they need to give more than iPhoto and iTunes. Yes my iPhone is fun to use. Yes it's fun to show its features like surfing or watching video. But I keep my HTC with me to have a business phone. I need to sync tasks, I need to sync notes, I need to have basic features in SMS apps (such as delete an single sms, forward one or send one to many), etc. This update doesn't fix a single missing feature in SMS for exemple. 3 months after launch, it's quite disapointing. And Apple has even not understood that installing 3rd party apps on the iPhone is good thing to extend the lake of several features. Actually, the iPhone is a fun toy. But that's it. For everything else, it's far behind my HTC. Unfortunately :-(

Better add streaming music over Bluetooth to these lists too...

everyone has their own list of features that apple just had to put in this update. That said, the only thing in this update that I really give a damn about is the shortcut to the phone favorites. It took a ridiculous number of gestures to actually be able to make a a call before. I guess I'd like the period-space shotcitwhile typing too, if I could ever remeber to use it.

The failure to let you send texts to multiple people at one go seems like a stupid oversight to perpetuate, and its not even something I myself would use.

I'm dubious about the claims of improved receiver and speakerphone volume. It still sounds too quiet for me.

Most of I think Apple's decision to render unlocked phones useless with this update is an ugly and vindictive act. It also seems incredibly stupid since it hits a lot of ardent apple supporters who have pretty big soapboxes to complain from. Apple is either incredibly stupid not to see this coming, especially after the outrage about the price cuts, or, more likely, they are throwing their weight around to make a
    point.

its not apples fault that unlocked phones are rendered useless! the unlocked phone has altered modem firmware on it and their normal modem update program fails to flash the new modem firmware properly. the ipsf unlock if fine as it changes eeprom setting actually properly unlocking the phone. ipsf phones remain unlocked after the update, but as yet they cannot be activated with another sim. All these problems will be resolved soon enough, just be happy with 1.02 untill they are. Its not really apples fault! as they were bound to update the modem firmware to make it better, the dev team knew this when they made their unlock so did harro, no-one is blaming them for not using the ipsf method are they!

It just seems to me the only real value or feature in this update is the iTunes music store on your phone. The rest is fluff and puff.

Didnt Steve jobs say the this update was major? Well its not really.

Go to apples own forums and I dont think a single most requested feature has been addressed here. I think it was more an experiment to see just how much more they could lock down the iPhone. How much harder they can make the hackers work.

Ye, I think so far they totally missed the point that all of this could be corrected if the phones were unlocked by installing apps.
