They could help attack the corporate market by allowing calls to be routed to the desktop PC and used via a headset - so it could be a phone on your desk and when you walk away you take it with you.

All true. The good news is, were not missing much by keeping our phones on 1.02 for the time being. If it was actually a meaningful upgrade, then we would all be itching for it.

Buy another phone, see if you can get new features from update.

    Stop complaining.

Maybe Apple should open SDK, add VOIP, add GPS, add 3G, blah blah blah...

I know more is better, but Apple didn't promise you any new features when you bought the phone.

I'm not complaining purely using these forums for discussion which is far better than the 1000 posts which appear over people not reading or searching the forum

I love the phone - I am just stating things which I'd personally change.... seeing what other peoples take is...

I think Apple should add a few basic things such as MMS and sending out TXT to more than one person. But I can see how they don't want people "paying" for music off iTunes and simplying texting it away, which is why Bluetoothing music is a no go.

And no, Zoom is useless, the camera itself will stay the same, why add a digital zoom? Though a few camera functions, if any are available with the lense would be nice.

Actually that EXACTLY what Apple promised all of its iPhone customers even before it was released. Apple has always promised to add new features to the iPhone and still do by saying a 3G version will be released next year.

My theory is that Apple has been so focussed on locking down security again, they forgot to work on useful features.

Well, I keep on waiting for this fabled miracle update too, but when I actually think about it, the reasoning behind not releasing most of the updates we are begging for is unnervingly sufficient for Apple to not do anything.

Every single problem with SMS and MMS, Apple will probably respond to with one word: Email. Now that many phones have it, and unlimited data plans are becoming the norm, they probably just threw in the SMS app so that more than 27 people would by the iPhone. They don't have their 'heart' behind it.

Photo editing/Movie Capture: Apple wants the iphone to be an extension of your computer, not your computer, so I would highly doubt that photo editing would come. Video capture quality would not be nearly enough to satisfy Jobs' high standards, so he would never release it.

Flash Support: They put a Youtube app on there for a reason. I don't think that Flash will be coming. I can't possibly think of an implementation of flash that wouldn't make Safari like 300% slower. Remember that they value the whole web experience over anything else on the iPhone, so that means sacrificing one thing that will cause many problems over the few problems its absence causes. And, as if this wasn't enough, just try to imagine how you would interact with a flash program. With no keyboard? With no real mouse (I can think of some games that need this)?

Bluetooth: Well, I don't know where you guys have been, but bluetooth has always been as locked down as possible on phones. Maybe not such an expensive phone, but we bought it knowing what it was.

The one thing you must, must remember when making these demands, is that Apple does not compete with anyone, period. Look at the iPod. How long did it take for video to be playable on the iPod when all the competitors were doing it for years? Look at the mac mini, it still doesn't have a dvd burner on the low end model. What about .Mac? Congratulations on having one of the only remaining paid email services, Apple. I could go on for hours, but suffice to say that the evidence is everywhere.

One thing that is great about apple, though is that when they do decide to catch up, they end up not just getting there, but surpassing their competitors tenfold. Look at the iTunes WiFi MS. It's hands down the best way to buy music. Yes, I am including desktop iTunes in this comparison. They beat the rest of the industry with iTS, then they beat themselves with iTunes Wifi MS. And just look at the iPhone in general. I mean, there is no other phone out there on the market that so seemlessly blends the multitude of things cell phones have to be nowadays. Regardless of its downsides, there is no doubt that it will take the industry a while to catch up to iPhone 1.0, let alone the future generations.

And thats a plain stupid answer. Apple claims that they want 1% of the phone market. Great, lets even multiply it by 5.
So, 5% of the phones can easily send and recieve super nice emails.
What am i supposed to do when i need to interact with the rest of the globe population?
The Sms/Mmms thing is really ridicolous by Apple. Its a fact.

Fair enough, but its not the "real internet". Thats a lie.
There are sites which are 100% flash based, and i simply cant access them.

    This is totally untrue.
Make you a quick example, real-life: i've shown my phone to 5 friends here in Italy.
2 of them are going to buy it. One is not interested. The other two liked it a lot, but they are not the kind of "tech" fans. So when i explained them no group-sms and no-mms they were like "cmon, youre joking". I answered them "no, but its going to be fixed obviously". Now that it looks like its not going to be fixed, i can guarantee you that they will not buy it. Simply because the guys cant accept those limitations. Like a Ferrari where they forgot to mount the windows for them.

Im frankly surprised by how smal consumer attention Apple put in this update.
There were not many "easy-fixes" that thousands of consumers asked. Im not talking about GPS, im talking about bug fixes.
Not a single one has been addressed. Where was the focus? Itunes so that we can all buy more, and security so that we are locked out.
Looking the buddha guy explaining how REVOLUTIONARY the update is really makes me vomit.

Well, I don't know where you have been, probably in the US.
