Looks like the iPhone basically holds about 1week of recent calls, seems to auto delete calls on the list older than that from what I can gather. I dont think its based on the number of calls. Is there any way to make this larger? Many other phones out there will hold months of recent calls. It would be nice to get this list to hold say a month at least.

It seems the recent calls limit is 100 records.
I tried changing the limit in call_history.db to 300, but did't work. Any ideas????

Dont think it will be in the DB file, thats the file that holds the record, Im thinking its gotta be in some plist file somwhere, trying to find out where, been looking at a bunch lately to find it.

I would also like to see more recent calls on the list. My other NOT smart phone held 6 months of recent calls. I bought the smart Iphone 4 phone because it was supposed to be the best and thats what I paid for, so why can Apple not fix this??

Older calls are stored in the database but not displayed in the GUI. This is likely a performance thing.
You can probably extract these with a tool on your computer that can parse/read the call_history.db file.

Submit a feature request to Apple, it might find it's way into iOS 6
