I know I'll get heat for this, but I dont care. Some poor soul will thank me one day...

This forum is GREAT, no doubt, but it's great in a 'needle-in-a-haystack' kind of way, especially for people looking for guidance.

I just got a retail 8GB iPhone from an Apple store, today Dec. 24th 2007.

I haven't found one (1) complete, comprehensive guide in the entire web that would address the unlocking of the iPhone from A to * in order.

I read somewhere about the serial numbers, the one I got has the 4th and 5th digits as 39. I'm hoping thats a good thing for unlocking purposes but I have no effin' way to make sure because the content is so dispersed.

So yes, I'm asking, is the 39 ser# a holy grail? or meaningless?

(The device came with Firmware 1.1.1 OOB. as per settings/general/about)

    (I want to use t-mobile.)

(I want to use 3rd party apps, etc.)

I'm paranoid of even hooking up the thing to my computer for syncing out of fear it'll arbitrarily update to 1.1.2 or whatever....

If someone with knowledge on this things could in good faith inform me, or point me in the right direction, I'll set that guide up and contribute it here (H0sh), maybe on a sticky.

P.S. Making the content accessible, organized and easy to digest is just as important as the content itself.

Thanks, and PLS don't flag me. I'm domesticated, but just a little desperate.

Here is an excellent straight forward site that you can easily follow "APPLES2APPLES". I use it all the time and I have never messed my phone up. It shows both windows and mac tutorials. http://www.hackthatphone.com/111/iphone_step_1.html

While I am here, it makes me laugh that dev team release AnySim but won't release the jailbreak ??????
