I highly doubt they will ever release it. Their main concern is battery life.

It's hard to guess. However you must realize that it's a serious developer challenge to port flash to different machine. I remember how Adobe was struggling with porting flash 9 to linux architecture. Add the lack of keyboard and touchscreen instead, and you have really really tough task.

The othery think is are they *even working* on it? Or Apple just never contacted them and don't want Flash on iPhone? I doubt it's about battery. They could just add Safari setting to turn off flash. Heck, they could event set it as default off to avoid complaints. Flash is now single most lacking feature on iPhone for me. Given what magic Safari can do, I just pray for Flash to come soon.

Well there have been reports of the iPhone SDK getting passed out to certain developers early. Perhaps that was what stood in the way of Flash being ported to the iPhone. We'll find out come February I guess.

If it's not currently being worked on, it ain't gonna happen either. I highly doubt that they would have just randomly decided to start writing the proper flash support so late in the game. IIRC, some internal Apple people have said that it is in progress, but who really knows, right? One thing that I personally felt was certain was that Apple would be releasing Flash support if they decided against an SDK, simply to enhance the whole Web App thing. Now that they have switched gears on us, I wouldn't be surprised if Flash getting kicked to the curb was an unfortunate side effect. But what it really comes down to is that we can speculate all day long and get nowhere, only time will tell.

...hey, I just had kind of a flashback moment. You guys remember back in July when the whole iPhone hype was about the impending SuperUpdate that would give us not only flash, but Java, the SDK, WIFI store, mobile iMovie, mobile iPhoto, iChat and like 20 other things? Now the disappointment is setting in, . One thing that does excite me, though, is the fact that Apple is quoted as saying that they are planning on a lot of functionality updates for the iPhone, even as of right now. I assume that these won't be released in the form of one huge update, but as trickle updates spaced out over the weeks leading up to the SDK, essentially the moment that the iPhone becomes the ultimate mobile computer.

Nopes. It won't be that way. My assumption is that next firmware updates will focus on stabilizing iPhone, tighten the security and introduce some minor, yet handy features like manual disk management in iTunes (like iPods).

As for additional apps : highly doubtful. It's pretty obvious now, they want games and apps to be sold via iTunes just as music now is. That said, the additional apps will be available, but not in firmware and not for free.
