anyuone out there still with 2G that knows how to upgrade/jailbreak from 2.1.2 to new version of software? pretty much can't use Cydia any more.

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.3 Using RedSn0w (Windows)

You can use the "update" feature in iTunes - then run through redsn0w as per the guide above - just skip step 2 (restore) if you used the upgrade/update option in iTunes.

This might give you poor battery life and instability - if that happens (does not happen for everyone) just restore the OS and set your iPhone up as new.
