Of course this doesn't solve the issue. Why should it? The BB knows and knew all along what to do with Flash SMS. Flashing it won't change this. The problem is the result of yet another issue that is much larger and you'll find threads that I have written about this in this forum.

If the iPhone doesn't support Flash SMS (i.e. VM notifications), then it's not because something is broken, but rather, it's because Apple has programmed the phone NOT to act upon them. I am now confident of this fact and can prove it.

Some of our friends in CA and elsewhere are receiving VM notifications messages (I have confirmed this), but this is ONLY because their operators are sending legitimate SMS messages to notifiy them of awaiting VM and not Flash broadcasts.

I am still investigating what the workaround is to resolve this issue, but my professional and personnal life seem to be getting in the way of dedicating the 10 or so more hours that I need to identify the solution. Have faith though, the solution is at hand and will be forthcoming....(one of these days)

    Just a little question...
I live in Italy and a friend of mine, that now's in the USA, is bringing me home an iPhone...
Italian operators never uses flash sms, neither do users... Will I be able to receive them?

ciao myselft, you won't have a problem receiving/sending normal SMS, however TIM, WIND, OMNITEL, BLUE and HTREE (the are a few others mini operators but I forget them) all use flash type broadcast messages to inform you of a waiting VM.

Good luck with your iPhone when you receive it. Hopefully when you do, they'll already be an activator/jailbreaker available for the firmware you'll have on your phone.

well, I'm using Vodafone (formerly Omintel: Vodafone acquired Omnitel 4-5 years ago)... But what I don't understand is what are VM. Then, I thought that with "Flash messages" you meant only those appearing istantly on the display... Are these messages different? I don't receive it very often, but they're used to inform me when an offer is actived/disactived... There's also a special number (404) which is used to know our credit (as you maybe know, here in Italy almost everyone uses a prepaid sim): this number, once called, closes the call and sends us an SMS...
By the way, thank you for your reply

P.S.: just to inform you, actually in Italy there are these operators: TIM, Vodafone (which acquired Omnitel), Wind (which is not going very good ) and 3 (read Tre - abroad it's known as H3G). Plus there are 2-3 new virtual operators, which started only a few months ago. Blu (without the E) has been closed some years ago.
