Default [Any Firmware] Adding the iphone data plan ATT (+Visual Voicemail) w/o contract

I saw a few days back people wanted to add the data plan without contract, a few months ago I was able to do so with a cust rep and some months later I asked them to take it out since I was going out of the country and after I came back no one was able to do so.
So incase you want to use visual voicemail or want to use data on the go this is wat u do.

Call up customer care on 611 or watever 1 800 rep and chose the option to talk to a cust rep and choose the internet issues queue. Once u reach the person, they will say, they cant add the plan since they cant see any iphone in your account,as they see the older phone that you had on your account, now ask them if they can somehow use the imei no to change that, they will ask you for ur iphone's imei, which u can see in settings>genral>about, tell them ur imei and once they enter it they will see a iphone and after that you can add any iphone data plan withouth activating a 2 year contract, I like the plan because with locate me google maps almost works as a gps, with edge incase ur on a move.

I had called like 3/4 times before and the rest of the cust care reps couldnt do it for some reason, and I kept telling them the last rep asked for the serial no, I forgot that the last rep actually asked for the phone's imei, anyway I have visual voicemail working now and I can take off the plan anytime I want just by calling them again.

    Hope this helps!

    Thats weird.

Ever since I started using iphone, whenever I log into my online account,it shows iphone as the device that I am using.Used to be a nokia.

Did not have any problem when I got the $20 data plan about 3 weeks ago.The rep told me to wait 5 minutes after the call and just restart your "iPhone".

Even I see a iphone whenever I log onto my online account but for some reason, the cust reps cant see on their records, and I'm amazed that they dint ask you for ur iphone's imei! do u remember for sure that they dint ask for it?

For sure dude, didn't ask me anything.I even asked her if it would be a problem if I use different phones as I have 3 phones. She said no problems, does not matter which phone you use.

Only thing that I did not discuss was the visual voicemail.Do you think that might be the reason why they asked for the IMEI?I don't think so.

if yes then you dont have the iphone data plan, coz as soon as u have that visual voicemail starts working! incase it is working, then yes its strange that she did not ask for ur imei

    I will check that.

I did ask for iphone data plans. She gave me 3 options I think. All had the unlimited data but number of free sms was different.I chose the cheapest one $20.

I have the same $20 plan, the rep also tells all ur previous voicemails will be lost as soon as this is activated, and as soon as it is activated, the phone asks to restart (both times this happened while I was still on call with rep) and after that u goto voicemail, it will ask you to setup visual voicemail.

I will check into that tomorrow and see whats up.

I hardly ever get voicemail.I haven't received any since I switched to iphone.

When I tap on the voicemail it just dials the number and I get the recording. This means no visual voicemail.Right?

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I don't think that it will be of any use to me,but I should get it if i am paying for it.

So, if we have unlocked iphones that have been activated unoficially and jailbroken and want to add the unlimited data plan after the fact, will it still work?

This is my current situation: I have t-mobile service that I have been using ever since I bought my iPhone, now I want to jump onto my parents' family plan (they have tons of rollover minutes). Once I switch over my folk's family plan, can I ask them to add the iphone data plan ($20) to my iphone even though I activated/jailbroken against ToS? Since I never legitimately signed up for ATT service initially, will asking them to check my IMEI work?
