Is it safe to use the "Restore from backup" in itunes to get your iphone back to a working state?

Specifically, say some mp3 or video file corrupted itself, or some calendar item or contact. Is the only way to fix your iphone to do a complete restore and unlock/jailbreak/activate all over again?

As far as I know, unless you are using AT&T, O2 etc... without jailbreak, or unlock etc... then the best course of action is to setup your phone as a new onne every time you need to restore

However, if you have done nothing to the phone, hack-wise, then a back-up image ought to get yu back in business (but then you wouldn't be here in the first place).

So always set-up as a new phone, the only time i had problems, and in fact had to get the phone replaced was after restoring from an unlocked backup to a restore after unlocking.

to add to what Dok said even if you setup a new phone you can still re sync your contacs and music and pics via itunes if you have a pc and have microsoft outlook, also look in to a program called iphone pc suite
