Default [Advice] Order now or rather wait

    Hey folks,

regarding all the trouble getting an iphone (shortage on the eastcoast, 5-7 days shipping on apple.com) i am wondering if it is still okay to order one on apple.com.
i donīt mind if a new iphone is coming out or not. i just want the "normal" 16gb. or do you guys think a new unlockable software will be shipped?

    Thanks in advance...

If anything, a new software is going to be less unlockable, so you really shouldn't worry about that.

Also, realize that there is going to be a delay of a few months between the announcement of the 3g iphone and it's actual release due to FCC testing. They could release a minor update, though, like maybe 32gb.

I would say, buy it now. If Apple release a new bootloader, for whatever reason, you would have issues unlocking. It all depends on the user (you in this case). Apple could start shipping new bootloaders today for allwe know. If you want to be sure to have an unlocked iPhone, and you don care about the 3G or more capacity, then definitely buy it now. If you are just going to jailbreak and not unlock, then you might as well wait. But do whatever you think is best. I don't need a 16GB iPhone, let alone 32GB. 8GB us enough for me. And 3G isnt a big deal because most of the time I use the internet I am near a WiFi hotspot. And Edge isnt as slow as people say in some areas. Edge works fine for me most of the time. Except when downloading things, like using the installer.

Thumbs up if this information helped

I am a bit curious about the 3g iphones. In UK, only vodafone has rolled out 3g network coverage, while o2 has Edge, so even if apple releases a 3g iphone, unless you can use vodafone, it would seem pointless?

So, my feeling is, unless Apple is willing to open it to all networks in the UK, there is no advantage of a 3g iphone over the current iphone. (I am assuming of course that it will take a long time for o2 to use 3g internet).

Anyone has any comments about UK or USA coverage?

In the USA 3G seems to be fine, I am not sure about AT&T's 3G Network but the Verizon one is very good I know that. A friend of mine has a RIM Blackberry on Verizona dn gets excellent internet over 3G.

My only concern was that I thought if I ordered an iPhone now it could be shipped with a new firmware and wouldnīt be able to be unlocked. Like the first weeks with the 1.1.2

...and how is waiting going to solve that problem? If you want an unlockable phone, you should be buying now, while every phone is still unlockable.

I just thought because of the shortage of iphones in the at&t shops and the delivery time at apple.com there may be a new software coming out in the next days...

Dude what are you talking about?? Every network in the UK has almost full 3G coverage and has had since around early 2006. You only need to google 'uk 3g networks' to find info going as far back as 2003 for 3G in the UK.

I don't mean to be rude, but whoa there horsey
