Default [Advice] Legit AT&T > 8GB replaced for a 16GB, iTunes wants me to sign a new plan

and when i put my sim into the phone, instead of activating it like it should it is trying to make me go through the thing again where i have to sign up for a new plan and all that shit. Does that mean i have to sign for another 2 years everytime i get a new phone, even if it was a first gen phone? is there anyway out of this other than hactivating cos that leaves me with no service and no working visual voicemail or youtube.

It doesn't matter that it's 1st gen, its still a new phone and technically you need to sign a new 2-year contract every time you get a new iPhone.

Just hactivate it. All the problems you listed have really easy solutions and/or won't even apply since you're on AT&T.

You should be able to just restore to a previous backup that was stored on your computer. Thats what I did when my phone got stolen and I got a new one. I didnt have to hactivate or add two years to my contract.
