Default [Advice] iPhone 2G does not turn on at all.

This iPhone is my friend's iPhone. This is the story. The iPhone was low on battery so he connected it to his PC. After awhile, he came back but the iPhone was off. So he tried to boot it but nothing happens. No Apple logo. Just a black screen. The phone was in 1.1.4.

He brings it to me. I tried to boot the phone in DFU mode but there isnt any display. This is in iTunes 7.5. Tried to restore it to 1.1.4. Its goes to Restoring iPhone,Verifying iPhone Software and Restoring iPhone and then shows unknown error 6. All this time, there is the Apple logo and the spinning circle.

So connected to another PC with iTunes 7.7.1 and tried to restore using a custom 2.0.2 firmware. Created a custom IPSW successfully. Tried to restore in iTunes. Goes thru Restoring iPhone, Verifying iPhone Software and then Restoring iPhone. But its just sits there. There is the Apple logo and the spinning circle on the phone and iTunes says restoring but nothing happens. I put it there overnight. Next morning, its still showing Restoring iPhone firmware.

I told him it was likely a battery issue. The phone is still blank now. He is now going to a shop to try and fix it. Any advice guys.

Can you DFU restore to Apple FW 2.0.2 in iTunes. This should work.

    Then pwnage would be next

That was pretty short answer, so here is the extended version.

    1. Connect iPhone and PC/Mac
    2. Shut down iTunes (you should have 7.7.1 installed)
    3. Shut down the iPhone. If it still shows the spinning wheel hold home and start/sleep until the screen goes black, release both buttons then.
    4. Hold start/sleep for 10 secongs
    5. release start/sleep but keep holding home, until...
    6. iTunes starts up and sees an iPhone in recovery mode
    7. Release home, and just hit "restore" in Tunes

Will restore the iPhone to 2.0.2 locked. Start you favourite pwnage tool then, create a custom firmware. No need to have the iPhone connected. Quit the pwnage app as soon as the firmware is built.

repeat steps 1-6 from above and shift-restore (win) or option-restore (mac) to the custom firmware

Thanks mate. The problem is, the iPhone is completely blank. Even if I try to go to DFU or Recovery mode, iTunes detects it in Recovery but the screen is just blank. Even in normal Restore mode. Thats what bothering me.

Did he try restoring to Apple firmware, not custom firmware?

One more: If he is stuck in DFU mode, let him hold start/sleep and home for 30-60 seconds. If in DFU the iphone should boot then out of it.
If this works I'd restore to Apple FW 2.0.2.
