[Advice] How is the procedure to claim warranty at apple store?
i have a defect iPhone, half of the touch screen cannot be touch, i think there is a 1 year limited warranty for iPhone (is it true?)
so i'm going to bring it back to the apple store, what i want to know if there is somebody here that ever claim the warranty before? (maybe tpuch screen problem too?)
what should i bring?
should i bring the whole package or just the iphone itself?
do i need proof of purchase or somekind of receipt? (i lost the receipt)
must i show the proof that i have a valid AT&T contract? (i already jailbreak and unlock)
must i bring the sim card that is provided in the package?
please anyone with the experience of bringing iphone back to apple store for claiming warranty, would kindly give advice ...

Well for apple to even look at your iphone, then you will need a contract with ATT.
So you will have to restore to factory settings, and get a contract for service.
Are You Questioning My Authority?
Their website says something else.
"Our records indicate this product has not been activated. Learn how to activate your iPhone. Please note that warranty service is not dependent on activating your iPhone. For more information, please contact us. "
That's what I see when I put my serial on https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Restore your phone in DFU mode to erase jailbreak and activatation. Make sure that you have correct bootloader version and that you reflash your baseband (if 4th and 5th number of your serial are 45+ you should have bootloader version 4.6). Read forums on how to refubrish the phone fully.
Go to the store and play dumb that you have not activated the phone because you didn't use it and when you wanted to use it for the first time the touch screen wasn't working properly.
About the receipt. It hasn't even been 1 year since the iphones came out so all phones are on worranty even if bought on the first day. I think they should take it without receipt, depending on the staff, not sure though.
It's just what I would do if I were you.

Ghost in the Machine
If that's what you see on the website then I would virginise your phone then take to store with a printout of the website. I had to take my phone back in the UK and basically you take everything that came with the phone and they replace it. I too had no reciept but if you take it to the store that you bought it from then you don't need one as they have records.
My experience was with o2 UK store though and you would think that an Apple store would not worry about a reciept (AS LONG AS YOU PERSONALLY BOUGHT THE PHONE AND WERE THE CARD-HOLDER OF THE CARD USED FOR PURCHASE [sorry for the CAPS, but wanted to stress this]), they obviously have access to all serial number records as the serial of the phone is included in the barcode used for sale purposes.
Hopefully you'll be fine, remember to take that website warranty printout and they can't turn you away, don't forget though that there WILL be a disclaimer in the warranty that gives them the right to change terms without notice.
Hope this helps

I just took my iphone to warranty 2 days ago. It was also unlocked, but i restored to factory setting before taking it there....took it without a sim and played dumb saying it was my sisters iphone, and she kept the sim because she needed it for work etc....And they didnt care, they said i needed to bring the iphone with its sim (att activated of course), so they could access it. I have the dead strip on my screen too, it sucks....What to do now?
I had dropped my iPhone in the toilet (not recommended) and the water had caused the screen backlight to die. I knew about apple doing exchanges for iphones that were not working but were not voided in their one year warranty. So I checked to make sure that the water mark wasnt red (which it wasnt) then I took it to apple store. They looked at it and said the same thing as above "we will be glad to replace it, we just need your at&t sim card to activate" Well since I am happily using T-Mobile for my cellular services I knew that this would not happen. So I kindly asked my bosses lovely personal assistant if she'd mind going in and doing the exchange for me. Mind you: I did not tell her that I'd dropped it in the toilet; Only that the backlight wasn't working. She said "no problem" and took it in. Now she does have an iPhone with At&T and I think that helped, but I told her to bring her other at&t phone (not the iphone) and tell them that she needed this phone to stay activated because she was expecting important phone calls and told her to act like she was in a rush. It worked like a charm.. She was able to convince the ipod genius bar guy that it was in fact her iphone (even though the serial number came back to another woman who had previously owned it and she owns another one with different s/n) and was able to walk out of the store with the new iphone UNACTIVATED. When she came back to my office and gave me my brand new iphone. It was the 4th happiest day of my life.
Lesson here is: Apple will in fact replace your iPhone if the warranty is not voided. You just really need to be careful about how you proceed with them in explaining your situation. And basically its up to the Genius bar persons personal judgment weather or not to do the exchange and activate the phone there on site. Like with my situation; sending in a beautiful 24 year old girl asking her to kinda "play dumb" and "act anxious" worked. I got the phone unactivated and was able to execute a flawless unlock/jailbreak via Pwnage Tool within 20 minutes. Things have been great ever since. Good luck!
(p.s. I cant even look at that damn toiled anymore without cracking a smirk! LOL)
