Default [Advice] how to open files "applelogo.png" ?

I recently saw a hack where they changed the graphics for when iphone turns on, boots up and the restore picture on iphone.
so i'm trying to figure out how ti was done.
    i go into /system/library/coreservices/springboard.app/
in this folder i see 2 files that might clue me in as being the ones i need to modify, applelogo.png and activate.png

the problem is i cant find any program that can actually edit or look at them.

per se i dont need to edit them but i wish to know more, like is it a 4bit graphic file and what are the size limitations.

i wish to replace the restore and apple logo but i'm nto sure what needs to be done to the files, could it be as simple as replacing it with another .png file? provided the size is correct, i would think a 128x128 pixel picture saved as .png would work.

can anyone clue me into this customization?

and its not just those files i see lots of other .png files that if i copy them over, can't be read. are they encrypted or something?

Kind of "encrypted", or probably better just "scrambled": see for example this: Iphone PNG images.

Afaik, you can replace those scrambled pngs with regular pngs, so you need the conversion only one way.

Look up in google for a PC program called fixpngWindows : it converts all the apple encrypted .png in an editable one!!
There is also a Mac OS equivalent one : I don't recall the name, both are very efficient and convert in a second any .png image!!

PS: if you use Vista, make sure you add the compatibility with Windows XP and run it as administrator.

    Enjoy

PS 2: Any logo you put in place of boot Applelogo will only show for about 1 tenth of second towards the end!. You can not replace the Apple logo entirely as it is on the ROM.

Your talking about the ROM hack. It cannot be done by replacing a picture.

This is a handy link apart from fixpngWindows for png files,

it converting plist files you just upload and save em back to desktop and thats it

But like everyone saying you're not going to be able to convert the apple logo
