    Default [Advice] How does ATT know i am using an iPhone ?

    i was using Tmobile then had to change to ATT, my iphone was never activated throu iTunes, but when i log on to my account on ATT's web site. it shows me i have iphone, how do they know that? is it the IMEI number on the phone? if i change the IMEI number on my phone would that change it? is it illegal to do it in the US?

    Change IMEI is illegal and ha to do with FTC i think, HUGE FINES.

    They know cause your phone accesses special iphone programs like youtube, and the Visual Voicemail!

    Yes, it has everything to do with your IMEI, and, no, you definitely do not want to be changing that. Even being in possession of a program that enables you to change your IMEI is hugely illegal, hint hint at all you ziphone users.

    It fakes a IMEI as it reaches the baseband and out to the network, but you're right it is just as borderline illegal.
    But, in a civil sense, even jailbreaking your phone is in legal grey-matter. Pretty much anybody here is in some sort of legally questionable activity (OSX86 peeps know especially...).

    well i dont use EDGE to go on youtube, i only connect to my wifi at home to go online and youtube, also my visual voice mail doesnt even work. any way to fix it? thanks
