Add dashes and spaces to phone format?
I have successfully changed the phone formating on my iPhone to display Mexico's phone number formating. However, I don't like that the numbers are shown in a "plain" way (55443356), and I would like to add dashes or spaces between the numbers... something like "55-44-33-45".
I've tried editing both the mx and us tags in the UIPhoneFormats.plist, but they remain unchanged... as if added spaces or dashes where ignored.
Is it possible to modify the formating, by adding extra dashes or spaces?
BTW, I'm on 1.1.1
Thanks in advance!

I have found this the best guide for 1.1.1
It fixed my issue

I've already checked that thread, but there's nothing there that helps my situation. I mean, although I've successfully changed the formating to reflect my region, I can't modify the formating -adding additional spaces or dashes-. It seems that the system ignores the extra mods.

You have to change the US part of the plist file in the address book ui
I think the iphone reads from US as a default.

I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I've modified both the "mx" and the "us" fields in the UIPhoneFormat and I've fiddled with the AddressBook frameworks .plist with no luck.
My UIPhoneFormats.plist looks like this:
<key>mx</key>
<array>
<string>(0###) ###-##-##</string>
<string>+52 81 ##-##-##-##</string>
<string>+52 ### ###-##-##</string>
<string>00 $</string>
<string>+52 55 ##-##-##-##</string>
<string>+52 33 ##-##-##-##</string>
</array>
<key>us</key>
<array>
<string>(0###) ###-##-##</string>
<string>+52 81 ##-##-##-##</string>
<string>+52 ### ###-##-##</string>
<string>00 $</string>
<string>+52 55 ##-##-##-##</string>
<string>+52 33 ##-##-##-##</string>
</array>
As you can see, I basically added dashes next to the "#" in the <mx> key, and replaced those strings in the <us> key. The format does change and it shows like the original <mx> string , but it ignores the added dashes.
