What if you are not a US citizen?

having the iPhone activated is one thing... that's not what all the "buzz" is mainly about.

the buzz is about unlocking it... meaning it can be used with any carrier.

I am from San Marino (inside Italy) and I have received my iphone today from the USA. Just for who wants to activate it as regular as possible:

Use the 999-99-9999 SSN technique,
activate a pay-as-you-go plan.
You can choose both to use a credit card or account.

At this point comes my advice that will be also very useful to have an account in iTunes but the US one... so you can pay songs 0.99 USD wich is 0,70 euros.
You have 2 solutions:

1) apply online for a wirecard: www.wirecard.com
altrough is issued in germany it will not read the billing address and will work with any US billing address.
2) apply for a card + account in USA (useful not only for this, also paypal etc.)

you will have a VISA card + a real US account to be used for max 1500$ transactions.

This way you will be billed around 36 USD but you are "100% legal and in guarantee.

I have a question. Did you activated in go plan? but can you get the PAY AS YOU GO plan? because as far as I know you can only chose PICK UP YOUR PLAN for an iPhone.

If you are not "good credit" you will be automatically diverted to the Pay as You GO plan... if the answer is not this I didn't get the sense... please explain.

Sorry Forgot to say that in order to signup for an itunes account with Wirecard you need first to signup a new Paypal account, declaring a US address AND then use this account in iTunes. Paypal will accept your card.
