I just saw the video on iTunes handled activation of iPhone.

* Can anybody here confirm how it works or tell what happens if the used computer has no online connection?
* Does the iPhone carry usale SIM or is it somthing "sim-less"? (see other thread)
* Can someone sniff a attemped activation via itunes? (server, protocol, traffic?)

you NEED an internet connection, itunes 7.3, mac 10.4.10 or XP, to activate.

alternatively you can go to an AT&T store and activate there

however you will still need to meet the software reqs to sync/use itunes

beyond that, the process is simple. you run itunes, plug in the phone and it automatically starts the process. it took 5 minutes total, with about 3 minutes for at&t to activate the phone and give me a number.

i know there is a lot of grumbling about the process, but some people are clearly not using the latest mac os.

Some people are having number port issues. in my experience on other carriers, it takes at least a few hours to work, so people who were expecting instant on were fooling themselves.
