Activate USA iphone with UK sim card
Hi. I have the first generation iphone which i bought from the USA and had it unlocked.
Couple of weeks back, i purchased a 3G iPhone on a contract.I am in the UK, btw. Im just wondering is it possible to like restore my old iPhone and sort of activate it using my o2 sim card?
I don't think its possible, but i was hoping maybe one of you guys could help.
Thanks!

Why not restore to fw 2.1 and use winpwn to unlock jailbreak and activate.

Almost. On windows you'd have to use Quickpwn 2.1 (Win), on a Mac use Quickpwn 1.1 (Mac) + Bootneuter or PwnageTool toj/a/u the 2G iPhone and use it with any simcard.

That's not true.
Mine was bought unlocked from Apple store in Chicago, 2g FW 1.0. Came to Blighty, unlocked it by myself through this forum and other sites, currently on 2.1FW. I was using it 3 months before it officially reaches UK.

Thanks for the fast reply guys. What i really meant was that, i don't wanna unlock the phone, but use it on a o2 sim.

You dont want to unlock the 2G iPhone? Then it wont work with the o2 simcard from the UK, it is "bonded" to AT&T.

impossible
I have a US iPhone 3G and I knew as a fact they only way I could use it in another country would be through jailbreaking it then using a sim-unlock method. Very safe and does not modify modem firmware (baseband).

It seems to me the OP's asking if one could just restore any iPhone to a stock firmware and subsequently activate it with a SIM of an 'approved iPhone carrier' outside of it's originating country (his case being an US iPhone with an O2-UK SIM) via iTunes (no pwnage). A search on this topic yields confusing answers, but according to this post, it seems impossible to do.
OP:
Just to aid us in helping you, what is the reason you want it activated for only an O2 SIM... wanting to activate it for prepaid only, better data plans for original gen users, or is it some other reason?
