    Default Activate Sim?

    from iphonesimfree site FAQ

    5. Do you still need itunes to activate the phone?

Activating your phone with itunes is not the only method available for activation. In order to use our software you will need to activate your phone through the means of your choice (see question 11)

    6. Will the unlock work on phones that have been activated?

Yes, an activated phone is required for our software to work. (see question 5 above)

    11. Is it easy to install?

Unlike other methods currently available, our software is by far the simplest and quickest to install and set up.

I think they mean that if after unlocking using their software and you still get the message, it means that you didn't properly activate it.

I think that LOLEC undesrstands this, and he is asking what a proper way would be to go about activating the phone would be. (i.e. which software?)

Yes, this is a bit confusing. Am I to insert my T-Mobile sim and activate again? How do I go about "activating" again with the T-Mobile sim?

I expect we'll get more complete answers when (if?) the IPSF software is actually distributed.

But if you recall, when you "activate" using a program like iNdependence, you enter both an IMEI and ICCD number -- and the ICCD number on the back of your iPhone box matches the number on the ATT SIM card.

When I pop my ATT SIM card out of my iPhone and simply replace it with an Orange UK one, I get an invalid SIM message.

So I restored my iPhone and then re-activated using iNdependence with the Orange UK SIM card inside, and used the ICCD number from that Orange UK SIM card. When the activation is complete, I get a different error message that references that the iPhone is SIM locked (and this SIM doesn't match the lock). Put another way, it appears that at this point my iPhone is activated with the Orange UK SIM card, but the iPhone's lock mechanism is preventing it from being used (which is different from getting a message that the wrong SIM altogether is installed).

So it is possible that to run the IPSF software, you'll need to restore your iPhone, insert the SIM card you want to use (e.g., T-Mobile, Orange UK, etc.), and then re-activate the iPhone using iNdependence (or the tool of your choice) (and you may have to make sure you input the ICCD number of the SIM card you plan to use during the activation process). Then when you run the IPSF software, it should unlock and allow the iPhone to recognize the new SIM you've chosen.

This is all conjecture from my point, but the above scenario would match the tutorial language currently up on the IPSF site.

Does any of the activation programs for Windows support entering a custom ICCD?

I used the pqdvd thing and it just activated without asking any questions

This explanation sounds very reasonable. I guess I will have to go through the whole reactivation/youtube process again
